Three years ago I had the ultimat nightmare of anyone working with the Internet and tryingto make their living - my site was hijacked. The server was infiltrated and used for sending out millions of emails and other stuff - this had the effect of my sits, I had over eighty working, being killed off or not work correctly - aslo my sites were getting blacklisted and I was losing everything.
I was paying a load of money each month for a hosting service on a dedicated server. They denied ther was anything wrong, until after months things just stopped - the comapy I was using were absolutely useless - it was one of the main reasons I made a fatal partnership with an idiotic UK software company to work with them - this daft agreement cost me the rest of my business and I am only just recovering from my bad luck with insecure hosting and my stupidityof trusting bright young technicians.
As a very temporary stop gap I cahnged my hosting from a mega expesnsive company costimg me over 5000 euro a year to just about the cheapest I could find at 120 euro a year (to host a lot of sites).
Gues what - I am still with the low cost one and they are the most reliable and helpful hosting company I have ever used - so much so I am happy to recommend them or offer you hosting on my servers with them.

It can be a really painful experience when you are with a wrong partner, not sure why it was a dedicated server recommendation and how the contract was made initially (there can be colo, unmanaged, partial managed and fully managed where each of them may have different rates and service level), but having a serious exploit for a long period of time without a solution is rather unacceptable.
